Pros:

Cons:

To understand the DSV 1340, we must look at the numbers. These specs define what the machine can physically do.

| Specification | Detail | | :--- | :--- | | Display Technology | DLP (Digital Light Processing) by Texas Instruments | | Native Resolution | WXGA (1280 x 800) | | Max Supported Resolution | 1080p (1920 x 1080) | | Brightness | 3,600 ANSI Lumens | | Contrast Ratio | 13,000:1 (Dynamic Black) | | Lamp Type | OSRAM P-VIP (Philips Vitality Plus) | | Lamp Life | 4,000 hours (Normal) / 10,000 hours (ExtremeEco) | | Throw Ratio | 1.54 to 1.72 (approx.) | | Screen Size | 27" to 300" (diagonal) | | Aspect Ratio | 16:10 (Native), 16:9, 4:3 compatible | | Weight | Approx. 5.5 lbs (2.5 kg) | | Noise Level | 31 dBA (Eco mode) |

With a dynamic contrast ratio of up to 20,000:1, the DSV 1340 delivers surprisingly deep blacks for a DLP business projector. Shadows in presentation videos don’t appear muddy, and there is minimal visible light leakage on dark slides.

No analysis is complete without critique. The P1340W suffered from three fatal flaws:

By 2016, the P1340W was discontinued, supplanted by LED-based portable projectors (e.g., Acer K137) and true 1080p budget DLP models. The “DSV 1340” lamp modules, however, remained available on aftermarket sites until roughly 2020, perpetuating the mistaken model name.

The Acer DSV 1340 is a compact single-chip DLP projector designed for portable presentations and small-room displays. It balances basic image quality, portability, and straightforward connectivity for business and classroom use.

How does this 5+ year old model compete with modern projectors?

| Feature | Acer DSV 1340 | Modern Budget Competitor (e.g., ViewSonic PA503W) | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Resolution | WXGA (1280x800) | WXGA (1280x800) | | Brightness | 3,600 Lumens | 3,600 Lumens | | HDMI Ports | 1 | 2 | | Built-in Speaker | 3W | 5W | | USB Media Reader | JPEG only | JPEG & video codecs | | Weight | 5.5 lbs | 4.9 lbs | | Price (Used) | $120 - $180 | $350 (New) |

Conclusion: The DSV 1340 is not worth buying new if you can find old stock. However, on the used/refurbished market under $150, it is a steal. You cannot find a 3,600-lumen projector for that price anywhere else.

The 3,600 lumens are legitimate. In a standard conference room with fluorescent lights at 50% brightness, the DSV 1340 produces a usable 80-inch diagonal image. In a dark classroom, it can easily fill a 120-inch screen. This is the projector’s primary selling point.
