You are running the vanilla game without Custom Shaders Patch. The server is running a custom physics script or track layout that only exists via CSP. Because you lack CSP, your game reports "1.16.4" (real Steam version). The server expects the CSP-coded "1.16.3". Result: Obsolete error.

Before we fix it, you must identify why your game doesn't match v1.16.3.

First, let's clarify a major misconception. When a mod tells you "Assetto Corsa is obsolete," it is not insulting the game's age (released in 2014). Nor does it mean your copy of the game has expired.

Instead, this is a checksum failure.

Modern Assetto Corsa mods, particularly "Crypto" mods (more on that later) or complex car mods with custom physics (like those from RSS, VRC, or many Patreon creators), utilize a specific encryption method to protect their 3D models and physics code from being stolen.

When the mod loads, it checks the version number of your acs.exe (the main game executable). If that .exe file has been modified, patched, or is too old, the mod refuses to load. It demands version 1.16.3 specifically because that is the final, stable, "vanilla" version of the game that most encryption tools are coded to recognize.

This is the magic trick. CSP allows you to lie to the server about your version to maintain compatibility.

By doing this, your game (running on 1.16.4 + CSP 0.2.x) tells the server: “Hello, I am version 1.16.3.” The server accepts the handshake, and you join.

If you use Content Manager (and you should be), you can force a clean install of the game kernel.

If you are reading this while staring at the error box, do this right now:

Do not argue with the mod. Do not try to manually hex-edit the acs.exe. You will only break your 300-car mod collection. Respect the v1.16.3.

Your sim racing experience depends on it.

Many old tutorials tell you to right-click Assetto Corsa in Steam -> Properties -> Betas -> Select "v1.16.3 - public". Be careful with this. If you roll back your Steam version to 1.16.3, you will lose compatibility with modern CSP and almost all 2024/2025 mods (No Hesi, SRP, etc.). This is usually the wrong move.
