The Battle Spirits DS Digital Starter translation is not a Bandai-Namco project. It has been a labor of love by a small group of fan translators operating under the banner of Team Cardboard (a pseudonym used by several TCG translation archives).
In the fan translation scene, version numbers often skip to avoid confusion with ROM revision numbers. Patch 14 (often written as v1.4 or “Patch 14 Work Upd”) was announced in late 2024 as the "final gameplay patch." But the question remains: Does “Patch 14” actually work, and what does “Upd” refer to?
Before discussing the patch, we must understand the source material. Unlike later Battle Spirits DS games (such as Hashira no Geki), Digital Starter is unique. It is not a story-driven RPG but rather a dedicated digital TCG simulator.
