In 8bit, these gradients often break into ugly "banding" (visible lines between shades). 10bit encodes provide 1,024 shades per channel. When used with x265, it eliminates color banding entirely. The sky over Jerusalem will look smooth; the shadows in the leper colony will be deep but textured.
