There are generally two types of "logic" puzzles you will encounter in chests post-patch.

Rewards are scaled to your level but always include:

There is no unique item locked behind the puzzle — it’s just a loot boost.

Rumors of a patch began circulating around two specific update cycles (late 2023 to mid-2024, coinciding with the public builds 1.4.0 to 1.5.0). Several forum threads popped up with titles like "Chest Puzzle Broken?" and "Old Forest chest solution not working anymore."

The primary reasons for these claims were:

Previously, summoning the elemental wraith could lead to a game over. The patch changed this: the wraith now deals non-lethal damage, dropping your party to 1 HP and then banishing itself. You are left exhausted but alive. This removed the save-scumming necessity entirely.

So, what does “patched” actually refer to? According to the official changelog for Patch 1.4.7 (released March 2025) and subsequent hotfix 1.4.8a (April 2025), the developers made three significant alterations to the chest puzzle.

In a Patreon devlog from March 2024, when asked about the chest puzzle changes, Fenoxo stated:

"The Old Forest chest was never meant to be a community-handshake puzzle. It's a small logic gate. Randomizing the solution on new game start keeps it interesting for veterans. As for the duplication bug—that was a genuine scripting error, and yes, it's been fixed. That's not a nerf, that's a repair."

This confirms that no "nerf" to the chest's rewards occurred (the loot table remains largely the same). Only the method of solving and the removal of exploits changed.
