Halvir’s arc is the emotional backbone of Volume 8. Having spent most of the series as the calm, calculating, and emotionally reserved magician, seeing him broken by Jeed’s torture is difficult to read but expertly executed. However, rather than making him a damsel in distress, Yamane gives Halvir agency.
