Note: This method often fails because modern DraftSight relies heavily on registry keys and C++ redistributables that may not exist on the host PC. Use Method 1 for better success.

If you need a portable CAD program, consider these legal options:

| Software | Portable Status | Notes | |----------|----------------|-------| | NanoCAD (Free) | Unofficial portable possible via ThinApp | Russian-based, similar to DraftSight. | | LibreCAD | ✅ Portable version available | Open-source, no license cost. Less powerful but safe. | | QCAD | ✅ Portable (from official site) | Trial or paid. Professional 2D CAD. | | DWG TrueView | No (but can be installed on USB) | Autodesk’s free DWG viewer with plotting. |

If you need a portable CAD solution (run from USB, no install), consider these:

| Software | Portable? | License | Notes | |----------|-----------|---------|-------| | LibreCAD | Yes (unofficial portable on PortableApps.com) | GPL (free) | 2D only, DWG support limited | | QCAD | Yes (official portable version available) | Free trial / paid ($39+) | Good 2D CAD, uses its own format + DXF | | NanoCAD | No (but lightweight installer) | Free (basic) / paid | Good DWG compatibility, Windows only | | DraftSight (free version) | No (requires install) | Free for personal / non-commercial | Must install normally |

Recommendation: Use QCAD portable (official) or LibreCAD portable (via PortableApps) for safe, portable 2D CAD.

  • Missing Features
Pirated portable versions are usually based on older (2018 or earlier) builds. They lack:

  • You will be stuck on whatever version the portable packager used. You cannot apply security patches, bug fixes, or new features. If a bug corrupts your drawing, Dassault support will refuse to help you.

Unofficial portable cracks are a favorite vector for malware. Attackers embed keyloggers, ransomware, or backdoors into the "portable" wrapper. Because the software bypasses standard security installation checks, your antivirus may not flag it immediately.

    1. Licensing Errors DraftSight creates a unique machine ID based on the hardware of the computer. Even in portable mode, if you move the USB to a different computer, DraftSight may detect a "Hardware Change" and deactivate or force you to reactivate. You may need to reactivate the license every time you switch computers.

    2. Performance Lag Running software via USB is slower than an SSD. Complex DWG files may take longer to load. Use a high-speed USB 3.0/3.1 drive for best results.

    3. Missing Fonts/Styles If you rely on custom SHX fonts or Plot Styles, ensure you copy those folders into your portable directory structure (usually found in Support folders within the install directory) so they travel with the app.
