Microsoft distributes signed Samsung drivers via Windows Update. However, these are usually older and may not support ADB/fastboot properly. We recommend manual installation.
macOS automatically recognizes Android devices for file transfer. For ADB/fastboot, install the platform tools via Homebrew: Exynos 7885 Usb Driver
brew install android-platform-tools
No separate kernel driver is required.
The primary use of the Exynos 7885 USB driver is to allow Odin (Samsung’s flashing tool) to recognize your phone in Download Mode. No separate kernel driver is required
Cause: Wrong driver for download mode. Samsung’s standard driver handles both ADB and Odin, but sometimes the COM port driver fails. Fix: Manually update driver: In Device Manager, right-click the unknown device → Update driver → Browse my computer → Let me pick → Choose "Samsung USB Composite Device." The primary use of the Exynos 7885 USB
Time required: ~5 minutes.
Ease of installation: Moderate – Windows often auto-installs a generic driver that fails for fastboot/Odin; manual override is common.
