Genetec Config Tool Default Password Guide
The Genetec Config Tool (part of Genetec Security Center and related products) is used to configure system components, services, and devices. For initial setup convenience, some Genetec components historically shipped with default or well-known credentials for local administration or embedded devices. Relying on default passwords exposes systems to unauthorized access, so this handbook focuses on recognition, secure replacement, and safe management of credentials.
Defenders often claim, “The Config Tool only works on the local subnet.”
That is cold comfort when:
Once you have local subnet access, the Config Tool’s default password is a skeleton key.
If admin/admin fails:
This is the most secure approach because it disables the internal password database entirely.
The Config Tool allows import of these defaults to discover devices. | Device Brand | Common Default Username | Common Default Password | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Axis Communications | root | pass | | Bosch | service | service | | Hanwha | admin | admin | | HID Edge/VertX | admin | password | | Mercury Security | admin | password | genetec config tool default password
Note: Genetec strongly advises changing these immediately via the Config Tool's 'Password Management' tab.
A common point of confusion arises during installation. When you first install the Config Tool, you are given two authentication options: The Genetec Config Tool (part of Genetec Security
If the installer selected the first option (Windows Users), the admin / genetec pair might not work at all. In that case, you need a Windows administrator account. However, in 90% of fresh installs or appliance resets, the fallback is the Config Tool user database, and the default is admin / genetec.
