If you head to the M-Audio (now inMusic) support page looking for a driver specifically labeled "Windows 11," you won't find one.

The M-Audio MobilePre USB is classified as a legacy product. This means the manufacturer has officially ceased development of new drivers for the hardware. The official support page generally lists drivers for Windows 7 and, if you are lucky, early versions of Windows 10. There is no official support for Windows 11.

While this is frustrating, it is standard industry practice. Audio interface technology moves fast, and companies eventually stop supporting 15-year-old hardware to focus on new models.

Technically, the MobilePre has 4 outputs (2 stereo pairs), but Windows 11 will not recognize it as a surround device. You would need third-party mapping software.

Once installed, go to Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings. In the Playback tab, you should see "MobilePre 1/2" and "MobilePre 3/4." Right-click the main stereo pair and select "Set as Default Device."

Result: You should have functional audio. However, note that on Windows 11, the ASIO driver may not work, limiting you to MME/DirectSound (higher latency). If you head to the M-Audio (now inMusic)


Windows 10 (version 21H2 and earlier) has looser driver enforcement. The legacy M-Audio driver works natively on Windows 10 without disabling signature checks. You can partition your hard drive and install Windows 10 alongside Windows 11. Boot into Windows 10 when recording.

Code 52 means "unsigned driver." You must disable Driver Signature Enforcement (see Step 2 in Part 2) permanently or use the Generic USB Audio driver.

Before giving up, try this method. It works for approximately 70% of users with the original "MobilePre" (the red/black box, not the newer "MobilePre MKII").
