If the user is utilizing the Windows 10/11 Store version of the launcher:

An incorrect system clock breaks SSL certificates, causing Error 437 during the “Download UPD” handshake.

On low-RAM systems (4GB or less), the UPD process may fail because there isn't enough memory to verify file hashes.

Error 437 typically appears in the Minecraft Launcher (especially after a major version update) when the launcher fails to download a required game file. The error message may read:

“Failed to download file. Name: [filename]. Reason: 437”
or simply “Error 437: Download UPD.”

It is not a corrupt save or world error — it’s a launcher-to-server communication failure.

The most common trigger for Error 437 is a corrupted cache. Do not fear—this does not delete your worlds.

  • Re-launch Minecraft. The launcher will regenerate clean files, bypassing the corrupted UPD hash.
