Monster Hunter 4g 3ds -jpn- -update- Cia May 2026

For CFW users: extracting your own update from a legit eShop download (prior to the 3DS eShop shutdown in March 2023) is the cleanest method. Tools like GodMode9 can dump installed updates to CIA.
Without the update, your 3DS cannot connect to Capcom’s (now legacy) servers. Even for local play, mismatched versions often cause desync.

Monster Hunter 4G is the expanded version of Monster Hunter 4. In the West, this became Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (MH4U). While nearly identical in content, the Japanese version has key differences: Monster Hunter 4G 3DS -JPN- -Update- CIA
The game shipped with version 1.0 on cartridge. But like any online-enabled title, Capcom quickly pushed out Version 1.1, 1.2, and finally 1.3 updates—collectively referred to by the scene as the Update CIA.
For newcomers, a CIA (CTR Importable Archive) is a package format used by the 3DS modding community. It functions like a digital installer – similar to the official Nintendo eShop package. Once installed via a tool like FBI or Custom Install, the 3DS treats it as a legitimately installed title.
The Monster Hunter 4G Update CIA is not the full game. It is a patch ranging from 300MB to 700MB, depending on the version. It installs directly to the SD card’s NAND partition (TWL NAND or SD title database) and patches the base game in memory.
Step 1: Prepare the SD Card
Step 2: Launch FBI
Step 3: Locate the CIA
Step 4: Install the Update
Step 5: Wait for Verification
Step 6: Exit and Verify
