Symptom: The unit powers on, you hear relays click, but the LCD is very dim or completely dark. Fix: The CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) backlight tube has failed.
Step 1: Enter Service Mode
Step 2: Zeroing the Test Leads (Error Correction)
Original manual error: It says to short the test leads. Incorrect – that induces offset error.
Fixed method: Use a 0.1-ohm 4-wire short (not a direct wire). Navigate to CAL-R0. Confirm the display reads 0.00 +/- 0.02 ohms. If not, adjust internal trim pot RV6 (not RV5 as the old manual states). neutrik a2 service manual fixed
Step 3: Capacitance Calibration – The Critical Fix The old manual tells you to calibrate at 1kHz only. This yields nonlinear readings above 10nF.
Step 4: Battery Low Loop Fix Many A2 units show "BATTERY LOW" even with fresh 9V batteries. The original manual suggests replacing C25 (1000µF). The fixed solution is to also replace Q3 (a 2N3906 PNP transistor) and update firmware to v1.4 or higher. The newer firmware lowers the voltage threshold from 7.2V to 6.5V. Do not replace it. Restore it.
Symptom: Unit powers on, but the measurement readings are erratic, or the unit dims when you activate the 48V phantom power. Step 2: Zeroing the Test Leads (Error Correction)
The Official Manual’s Flaw: The manual suggests checking the +15V, -15V, and +5V rails. It fails to mention that the +5V logic rail is derived from a 7805 regulator that is under-spec'd for the heat generated by the original backlight.
