New in City v0.1 is an early-access indie game concept blending exploration, light survival mechanics, social simulation, and emergent narrative. It places players in an unfamiliar urban environment and tasks them with navigating social systems, building relationships, and carving out a life while uncovering the city’s personality. The tone is slice-of-life with hints of mystery; gameplay emphasizes choice, consequence, and discovery rather than combat or high-stakes action.
The city itself is a character. Streets are labyrinthine, and the in-game GPS is notoriously unreliable (a deliberate design choice). Players of New in City -v0.1- By DanGames have resorted to using physical notebooks to map shortcuts, creating a vibrant community of cartographers sharing hand-drawn routes on the game’s Discord server.

Since its shadow drop on Itch.io two months ago, New in City -v0.1- By DanGames has been downloaded over 50,000 times. Streamers have embraced it for its “chaos potential,” with one viral clip showing a player accidentally starting a gang war by mis-delivering a pizza.
DanGames, a solo developer based in Montreal, has published a roadmap for the full release: New in City -v0.1- By DanGames
In a recent dev log, DanGames wrote: “New in City is my love letter to alienation. Version 0.1 is just the first layer of the onion. I want players to feel lost, then found, then lost again.”
At its core, New in City -v0.1- By DanGames places you in the worn-out sneakers of a recent transplant. You have no reputation, no savings to speak of, and only a crudely drawn map of a sprawling, procedurally generated metropolis. The objective is deceptively simple: survive, establish a routine, and carve out a name for yourself. However, as any player of New in City -v0.1- will tell you, the city fights back.
Version 0.1 focuses on the first seven days. You must find temporary shelter, secure odd jobs from shady terminals, and learn the unspoken social hierarchy of NPC factions. Unlike other life sims where you are a hero, here you are an ant. The game’s tagline, “No one is coming to save you,” is a promise DanGames intends to keep.
Only 3 jobs are fully implemented. Each requires a stat check to unlock. New in City v0
DanGames has released a tentative roadmap for the next 12 months. If v0.1 is the skeleton, the future updates will add the muscle.
v0.2 (Estimated Q3 2025): The "Midtown Expansion." Two new neighborhoods, a romance system (three potential partners), and the ability to adopt a stray cat to buffer the loneliness meter.
v0.3 (Estimated Q4 2025): The "Career Ladder" update. Specialized job trees (become a chef, a taxi driver, or a junior graphic designer). Unlockable apartments with actual furniture.
v1.0 (Estimated Q1 2026): Full release. Procedurally generated city events (protests, blackouts, surprise snowstorms). An ending: either "Leave the City," "Thrive in the City," or "Go Viral as a Street Musician." The city itself is a character
