Before fixing lag, it helps to understand why Insurgence struggles:
If the game is still unplayable (slideshow FPS in caves or rain), you need to modify the game engine itself.

One of the biggest causes of lag in Insurgence is the dynamic weather system. While it looks pretty, the particle effects for rain and sun can tank your frame rate.
