Bat-Erdene split them into pairs. Each received a simulated emergency call written in pure, classical Mongolian. Cadet Amar and Cadet Zaya drew a tough one:
"Нэгэн хүүхэд гурван давхар байшингийн дээвэр дээр гацжээ. Тэрэнд зөвхөн монгол хэлээр тайвшруулах хэрэгтэй." (A child is stuck on the roof of a three-story house. You must calm him using only the Mongolian language.)
Amar whispered, "Let's just say 'It's okay' in English — faster." Zaya shook her head. "Багш хэлсэн — Mongol heleer full. Хэрэв бид дүрмийг зөрчвөл, шалгалт унана." (The instructor said — full Mongolian. If we break the rule, we fail the exam.)
At the National Police Academy of Ulaanbaatar, cadets were trained in law, combat, and ethics. But one instructor, Senior Officer Bat-Erdene, had a unique rule for his final exam: "Today, we speak Mongol heleer full — only Mongolian, completely, without a single foreign word." police academy mongol heleer full
The cadets groaned. Most were fluent, but modern police work mixed Russian, English, and Korean loanwords constantly. "Radio," "computer," "suspect" — all forbidden.
On the simulated roof (a training tower), a young actor played the scared child. He spoke only Mongolian — and not the modern kind, but soft, ancient words his grandmother used.
Most cadets failed. They yelled "Stop!" or "Don't move!" in English out of habit. The "child" cried harder.
Amar froze. Zaya stepped forward. She crouched low, made eye contact, and said softly: cadets were trained in law
"Бүү ай, би чамтай хамт байна. Чиний нэр хэн бэ? Надад хэлээч, би сонсож байна."
(Don't be afraid, I am with you. What is your name? Tell me, I am listening.)
The child whispered, "Мөнх-Эрдэнэ."
Zaya continued in full Mongolian: "Мөнх-Эрдэнэ, би чамайг авахаар шатаар өгсөж байна. Чи зүгээр л суугаад, нүдээ ань. Бид хамтдаа доошоо бууна."
(Munkh-Erdene, I am climbing the stairs to get you. Just sit down and close your eyes. We will go down together.)
Within three minutes, the child reached for her hand. They descended safely. and ethics. But one instructor
