At the heart of the Tekla environment lies a hierarchical file reading system. When a user launches Tekla, the software reads initialization files (.ini) in a specific order to determine which settings to load. The general loading order is as follows:

  • Project Folders (Project Specific): These contain settings specific to a single job (e.g., a specific hospital project).
  • Model Folders (Model Specific): These contain attributes saved specifically within the current model folder.

    • The Golden Rule: The last file read wins. If a system folder defines a bolt as "A325," but the project folder defines it as "A490," Tekla will use "A490" because the project folder is read later in the hierarchy.
