At first glance, a hard-science movie set on Mars seems like a niche pick for Tamil dubbing. But the localization team did something smart. They didn’t just translate the words; they translated the attitude.
In Tamil cinema, we love the underdog who uses limited resources to solve big problems. Think of characters in films like Anbe Sivam or Kannathil Muthamittal. Mark Watney’s entire journey is one long sequence of "yosippu" (thinking) and "seyal" (action). In Tamil, Watney’s internal monologues sound less like a NASA scientist and more like a relatable, frustrated, yet funny engineer from Coimbatore or Chennai. the martian tamil dubbed
When Ridley Scott’s The Martian hit theaters in 2015, it was hailed as a love letter to science and problem-solving. Starring Matt Damon as the stranded astronaut Mark Watney, the film was a global phenomenon. But for Tamil-speaking audiences, the question always lingered: How do I enjoy this complex, witty, and emotional survival story in my mother tongue? At first glance, a hard-science movie set on
The answer lies in The Martian Tamil dubbed version. Over the past few years, the dubbed version has gained a cult following, not just for its accessibility, but for how effectively the film’s themes of resilience (Uyir Thunivu) and ingenuity translate into Tamil culture. This article explores everything you need to know about the Tamil dubbed version, where to find it, and why it works so brilliantly. If you are a fan of Tamil cinema,
I recommend watching the movie in English with Tamil Subtitles if the dubbed version is unavailable. The performance of Matt Damon relies heavily on his tone and sarcasm, which is best experienced in the original audio while reading the subtitles.

The problem is with the "dependency". The only dependency is the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012. The Chilkat .NET assembly is a mixed-mode assembly, where the inner core is written in C++ and compiles to native code. There is a dependency on the VC++ runtime libs. Given that Visual Studio 2012 is new, it won't be already on most computers. Therefore, it needs to be installed. It can be downloaded from Microsoft here:
Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012
If using a .msi install for your app, it should also be possible to include the redist as a merge-module, so that it's automatically installed w/ your app if needed.
Note: Each version of Visual Studio corresponded to a new .NET Framework release:
VS2002 - .NET 1.0 2003 - .NET 1.1 2005 - .NET 2.0 2008 - .NET 3.5 2010 - .NET 4.0 2012 - .NET 4.5The ChilkatDotNet45.dll is for the .NET 4.5 Framework, and therefore needs the VC++ 2012 runtime to be present on the computer.
Likewise, the ChilkatDotNet4.dll is for the 4.0 Framework and needs the VC++ 2010 runtime.
The ChilkatDotNet2.dll is for the 2.0/3.5 Frameworks and requires the VC++ 2005 runtime. (It is unlikely you'll find a computer that doesn't already have the VC++ 2005 runtime already installed.)
