This paper analyzes Park Hoon-jung’s 2022 film The Witch: Part 2. The Other One, the sequel to The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion. It explores the film’s expansion of universe lore, the introduction of a new protagonist, and the thematic continuity of trauma, power, and dehumanization through experimentation. The paper argues that while the sequel sacrifices some narrative subtlety for spectacle, it successfully deepens the moral ambiguity of the “witch” archetype.

The sequel amplifies the original’s hyperviolent telekinetic battles. Cinematographer Kim Young-ho uses shaky cam and wide shots to emphasize the Girl’s disorientation before cutting to steady, brutal close-ups during kills. While visually stunning, the excessive gore occasionally undermines emotional stakes.

The unnamed protagonist (credited as "Girl") embodies a different type of power: raw, uncontrolled, and emotionally reactive. Unlike Part 1’s Ja-yoon, who calculated her moves, the Girl acts on instinct. This shift allows the film to explore trauma not as a source of cunning but as a trigger for annihilation.
