Universal Ps3 Eye Driver 10 Beta 2
Use the free tool AMCap or OBS Studio.
Run a test recording. If you see fluid movement and hear clean audio, success!
The developer (known as “Nefarious” on GitHub) has hinted at a few features for the final v10 release: universal ps3 eye driver 10 beta 2
Until then, Beta 2 is the most feature-complete, stable bridge between the PS3 Eye and modern Windows.
If you have previously installed CL Eye Test, CL Eye Platform Driver, or any older version of Universal PS3 Eye Driver, uninstall them first. Use the free tool AMCap or OBS Studio
Plug in your camera. Windows will detect it as “Universal PS3 Eye Camera (Beta 2)”.
Fix: The driver’s LED control is manual. Download PS3EyeLEDControl.exe (included in the driver tools folder) or add this line to a batch script:
powershell -Command "Add-Type -AssemblyName System.Device; $cam = New-Object System.Device.Location.Camera; $cam.LedState=0"
(Alternatively, just unplug the camera). Run a test recording
If you are currently running the old CL-Eye Test Driver (v3.0, 2012) or the first Beta 1 from 2022, Universal PS3 Eye Driver 10 Beta 2 is a worthwhile upgrade. The improved stability at high frame rates and the elimination of Windows Test Mode make it the best free option available for PS3 Eye users on modern PCs.
However, if you have a working setup with an older driver and do not need microphone control or multi-camera support, you may hold off until the final release.
Rating: 4.2/5 – Essential for motion-trackers, still quirky for general webcam use.
