Older KKL 409.1 cables relied on unsigned 32-bit drivers (often modified FTDI drivers). Windows 10 64-bit, by default, will not load unsigned drivers. Furthermore, official FTDI drivers released after 2016 actively brick counterfeit FTDI chips (common in cheap eBay cables). This is why many users plug in their cable, see “USB Serial Converter” or an error code 52, and cannot proceed.

If you already have a problematic cable, try using VAG-COM 409.1 software (not newer VCDS) with the COM port set to 1–4 (some versions refuse higher COM numbers).
