Obtaining access is not as simple as downloading an app. Volkswagen protects this system rigorously. There are currently three tiers of access.

To perform critical operations—such as component protection removal, control unit flashing, guided fault finding, or immobilizer adaptation—technicians must obtain authorized access via GEKO. Unlike older diagnostic systems (e.g., VAS 5051), GEKO enforces a mandatory online verification step with VW’s central servers, ensuring that only vetted users with valid tokens can execute security-relevant functions.
