Better - Xbox 360 Redump
Redump-style dumps are superior for long-term preservation and forensic-level accuracy because they capture sector-accurate data, subchannel information, and original disc structure; they require more effort, hardware, and storage. For casual playback on consoles/emulators, simpler image formats may suffice; for archival, restoration, or preservation, target Redump.
As of 2025, Xenia Canary (the most popular fork) explicitly recommends Redump images. The developers have stated that "bug reports using non-Redump ISOs will be ignored." This policy alone proves that the community has accepted that Redump is better.
Furthermore, the new Xenia texture caching and HIDAPI controller support work flawlessly with Redump CHDs. Scene rips often break title updates (TU) and DLC compatibility because the media ID is wrong. Redump images have the correct Media ID, allowing you to install updates without issues. xbox 360 redump better
Every Xbox 360 game has a unique Security Sector (SS) on the inner ring of the disc. Scene dumps sometimes inject a generic SS or omit it entirely. Redump images include the verified, unique SS. Without this, Xenia will throw a "Authentication Failed" error.
Several archive.org users have released “Redump Xbox 360” collections. Look for releases by AlvRo or the Xbox 360 Redump Revival Project. Ensure the collection includes: Example: Bad: Gears_3_XGD3_LT3
The Xbox 360 security architecture was notoriously complex. To play pirated games on modified hardware (flashed DVD drives), "Scene" groups often stripped out security sectors, down-sampled video files to fit on DVD5 discs, or patched the executable (XEX) files.
When searching for ROMs, do not just look for the game name. Look for these identifiers: and original disc structure
Example:
Bad: Gears_3_XGD3_LT3.0_Repack.rar
Better: Gears of War 3 (USA) (Disc 1).iso (SHA-1: matching Redump.org)

Many Scene releases were "region dupes" or "nuked" releases where foreign language audio tracks were stripped to make the download smaller.
